Aabn Ransomware

The Aabn Ransomware carries an encryption routine that can leave the victims of the threat unable to access most of their data. When deployed to the targeted computers, the Aabn Ransomware will scan the files stored there and then it will proceed to encrypt any documents, photos, archives, databases, PDFs and other file types. The affected files will no longer be accessible and restoring them without the decryption keys possessed by the threat actors would be practically impossible.

The Aabn Ransowmare threat is a variant belonging to the infamous STOP/Djvu malware family and follows closely the typical behavior of this group of hurtful threats. First, it will mark each locked file by appending a new file extension - in this case, '.aabn,' to the file's original name. Afterward, the threat will create a text file named '_readme.txt' on the infected device. Inside the file, victims will find a ransom note with instructions from Aabn Ransomware's operators.

The message reveals that the cybercriminals are trying to extort their victims for $980. However, this initial ransom amount could supposedly be reduced by 50% if the affected victims contact the attackers within the first 72 hours. This offer is commonly found in STOP/Djvu threats. The emails that the note provides as potential communication channels are 'support@bestyourmail.ch' and 'datarestorehelp@airmail.cc.'
