'Win a New iPhone 13' Scam

The 'Win a New iPhone 13' scam is being propagated by rogue websites. The fraudsters use the eye-catching promise of users having the opportunity to win an iPhone 13 to hide the fact the website is running a phishing scheme. Using a fake giveaway with a supposedly lucrative reward is a common tactic in the repertoire of phishing operators.

In this particular scheme, the phishing portal prominently displays several enticing messages. First, the page claims its visitors have won the aforementioned Apple product but, to receive the reward, they must pay just $3 for a trial subscription. At first glance, this may not seem like such a bad deal. Receiving a brand new smartphone for $3 and entering your name, address, phone number, and email address into the site. However, taking a close look reveals the true nature of the tactic.

The smaller text displayed on the top and bottom of the page paints an entirely different picture. According to its terms, the $3 trial lasts for only three days and after that period users will be charged $28.99 every two weeks. The money will be charged until users manually cancel the service. In short, users will not only not receive the promised iPhone but will have provided sensitive personal information to con artists, while also incurring monetary losses.
