There have been numerous complaints of computer users directed to Vredsearch.net and to other similar search engines with .net domains. Vredsearch.net belongs to a sea of fake search engines created in early 2012 which are closely linked to the ZeroAccess rootkit. These differ greatly in interface from one to the next, but, at their core, they are all versions of the same bogus search engine. Websites like Vredsearch.net are designed to display malicious links and fake search results, so it can scam inexperienced computer users. Vredsearch.net sports a minimalist interface, with little more than its search box and a list of links over a white background. If you visit Vredsearch.net in itself, you will probably not infect your computer with malware, although this is not a good idea due to the website's close association with browser hijackers.

Even if the Vredsearch.net website in itself will not attack your computer directly, PC security analysts consider Vredsearch.net and hundreds of similar fake search engines as severe problems with the potential to devastate a computer system. This is because Vredsearch.net is designed to be a hub where computer systems are at once exposed to malware and also where already infected computers are directed in order to generate profits for the criminals as well as being exposed to additional malware.

Websites like Vredsearch.net are designed to imitate legitimate search engines, while actually having no real search capabilities. These websites are designed to return spam and malicious advertisements each time its victims try to carry out a search. Basically, criminals use browser hijackers to force computer users to have no choice but to visit Vredsearch.net repeatedly, in the process allowing criminals to profit from the advertisements clicked on and displayed each time the victim ends up visiting Vredsearch.net against his/her will. The main problem with Vredsearch.net is that this fake search engine is closely associated with a browser hijacker that also includes a dangerous rootkit component (ZeroAccess) known as the Google Redirect Virus. This Trojan infection changes the results on real search engines so that they lead to Vredsearch.net instead of to their intended web address.
