Vipsearch.guru is a dubious search engine that is being promoted via a browser hijacker application. The chances of users deciding to use fake or dubious search engines willingly are slim to none. That is why these engines rely on browser hijacker applications predominantly to drive traffic towards them.

The problem is that browser hijackers are designed to take over certain browser settings specifically. Almost always those are the homepage, new tab page, and the default search engine. By changing all three to open the promoted address, the browser hijacker application ensures that nearly all actions taken by the user - such as opening the browser, starting a new tab, or initiating a search via the URL bar, will lead to the sponsored address immediately. Furthermore, while the application is present on the system, revering the settings back to their original states could prove to be impossible. 

An important aspect of the browser hijacker applications is that they are not spread via the normal distribution channels. To avoid being noticed by the users, these applications rely on tactics that mask their installation. These deceptive methods include bundling, as well as fake installers/updates for popular software products. Due to this underhanded behavior, the applications of this type also are classified as PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs).
