The VideoCenter Search is another browser hijacker that is similar to the ArcadeCenter Search browser hijacker, as their modus operandi is identical, but it appeals to a different type of audience. Much like the ArcadeCenter Search claims to offer access to free online games, the VideoCenter Search claims to be a browser extension providing more information about movies, images, video clips, actors and more.
In fact, the VideoCenter Search browser hijacker is an intrusive piece of software that will modify the settings of your browsers and change your homepage, default search engine, and new tab page, affecting your browsing experience. The VideoCenter Search browser hijacker is made in such a way that it is capable of reading and changing the data on the websites you visit and may be capable of gathering information about you Internet history and browsing habits.
The VideoCenter Search browser hijacker generates revenue for its creators by showing you an excessive amount of pop-up ads and redirecting you to websites that are part of pay-per-click schemes. Another way that it monetizes its existence on your PC is by recording and selling your browsing information to marketing companies and affiliate downloads of other Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs) that it advertises to you constantly.
Simply knowing the way in which this software makes its way onto your computer will show you that it's up to no good. Just like the ArcadeCenter Search browser hijacker, the VideoCenter Search browser hijacker usually comes bundled with freeware that you might find yourself downloading from untrustworthy websites. Despite this, both extensions have Google Play Store pages and appear to be products from a portfolio of a bogus product called PlayMediaCenter, which is considered to be suspicious by security experts.
And while the VideoCenter Search browser hijacker may seem like just a minor nuisance, it may very well lead you to bigger problems. Many such programs are used by hackers as a way to redirect and use social engineering to convince people into downloading severe threats. This is why you should keep your computer clean from such unwanted programs and have detection and removal tools to help you protect it from them.
