UPCleaner

By GoldSparrow in Potentially Unwanted Programs

UPCleaner is a PC Optimization tool whose development and distribution is handled by Brotsoft, a not so reputable software developer whose name is mostly associated with Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs). UPCleaner isn't any different and major anti-virus vendors identify this application as a Potentially Unwanted Program that may be installed on the users' computers automatically. UPCleaner's distribution campaign relies primarily on software bundling, a marketing trick that may be used to trick users wrongly into installing software they don't need.

The good news for users who have UPCleaner on their computers is that this program isn't harmful. In fact, UPCleaner does include features typical for PC optimization software – junk file scanner, Registry scanner, Registry optimization algorithms, etc. However, the tricky part is that most of these features are only available in the paid version of UPCleaner, so users who have the trial version installed may not be able to take full advantage of UPCleaner's functionality.

If you have UPCleaner on your computer, and you allow it to scan your PC for potential problems, you may be presented with an exaggerated report that may include all kinds of recommendations, errors and potential fixes. However, the program will not fix anything unless you pay for its full version. Furthermore, UPCleaner may keep displaying notifications and pop-ups that may alarm you that you need to purchase a license to optimize your computer's performance. These annoying notifications are very stubborn, and the only way to get rid of them is by uninstalling the application entirely. We recommend that you remove UPCleaner with the assistance of a potent anti-malware utility that is guaranteed to fully eliminate the PUP.
