Many PC users have stated that their web browser takes them repeatedly to the Udugg.com website. This website uses a green background on which there are blue and tan panels containing links, the Udugg.com logo and a search box. At the top of the web page is a message claiming that you can carry out a Google search using Udugg.com's search box. However, why would anyone want to carry out their searches on Udugg.com if they can simply access Google or one of the many other reliable search engines and carry out their search directly? Computer users may be surprised to hear that Udugg.com receives plenty of traffic despite this fact. Why is that? The reason is browser hijackers, a type of malware infection designed specifically to take over a computer's web browser and direct it to Udugg.com without the computer user's authorization.

Websites like Udugg.com are typically set up in order to generate revenue from sponsored search results. The links on Udugg.com will often generate revenue due to affiliate marketing pay-per-click plans. Carrying out a search on Udugg.com will usually result in links that may be interspersed with advertisements and with search results that are sponsored by different websites and marketing companies. To make sure that computer users visit Udugg.com repeatedly, browser hijackers are used. These will typically alter the infected computer's settings to ensure that it continually redirects the victim to Udugg.com. Udugg.com redirects will typically take place after executing a search on Google or on any other search engine. Inexperienced computer users may believe that the Udugg.com redirect is normal and may try their search again on Udugg.com, inadvertently allowing the people behind these redirects to generate revenue from advertising and marketing schemes.

Browser hijackers are typically present in various rootkit and Trojan infections. They are often caused by a Trojan commonly known as the Google Redirect Trojan. To protect yourself from these kinds of infections, ESG security analysts strongly advise using a reliable anti-malware scanner and a strong firewall. Most importantly, it is necessary to avoid downloading files or clicking on links without being absolutely sure that their content is not malicious beforehand. This is especially true when it comes to links and files contained in unsolicited email messages.
