Trojan_Spy_W32_Zbot.BBHD is being used in an email phishing campaign targeted at LogMein subscribers. LogMein is a legitimate company and offers remote access and remote desktop software, allowing remote IT maintenance or work anywhere setups. The header and phishing scam exploits a familiar authentication policy, 'LogMeIn Account Notification -Account locked'. Targets are made to believe they've maxed out their login attempts, forcing automatic lock out. To unlock the account, they are provided a Web link to a form. Attached are one zipped archive file (logmein_unlock_form.zip) and another larger file (logmein_unlock_form.pif); Both are malware - Trojan_Spy_W32_Zbot.BBHD, a banking spy and the other a friend, Trojan.Win32.Agent.AMN, a backdoor Trojan. The trap or fake communication goes on to instruct the target to complete the form and email it back to security@loginmein(dot)com. The latter is just a ploy to make it all seem legitimate. Once the target 'clicks' on the link, they will unleash the malware and payload.

Whether you or someone using your computer fail for the fake LogMein phishing scam, the best way to ensure Trojan_Spy_W32_Zbot.BBHD or other malware is not on board is by using a stealth anti-malware tool. Trojan_Spy_W32_Zbot.BBHD is interested in sensitive data that could lead to compromising of financial accounts. However, more mischief could be planned, such as the theft of other online account credentials or the abuse of system resources in a DNS attack.
