Trojan:DOS/Alureon.K is a Trojan with rootkit capabilities that targets the compromised PC's VBR (volume boot record) to load and initiate other Alureon rootkit components. Trojan:DOS/Alureon.K is produced by specific variants of the Win32/Alureon family of data-stealing Trojans, such as Trojan:Win32/Alureon.FE. Trojan:DOS/Alureon.K downloads and executes arbitrary files that include additional components and other malware infections, installs fake anti-virus and anti-malware programs, clicks on banners and serves illegal advertising. Trojan:DOS/Alureon.K disguises itself on the victimized machine to evade detection and extermination of its various components by security tools.
