Transit Guide Extension

The Transit Guide Extension is a free application that you may find in freeware bundles on the Internet. The Transit Guide Extension is published by a marketing company called Polarity Technologies Ltd. The Transit Guide Extension is promoted to reconfigure the users' new tab and add driving directions and map services for their convenience. However, the Transit Guide Extension does not provide driving directions and map services on its own, and Web surfers are redirected to third-party service providers like Google Maps, Bing Maps, bus companies and rental car companies. The Transit Guide Extension makes browsers like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox load a custom offline page called 'New Tab Search' that includes links to Facebook, Gmail, Twitter, Instagram and Amazon. The 'Transit Guide New Tab Search' page features an embedded search by Yahoo and may show targeted advertisements based on your recent activity on the Internet. The Transit Guide Extension is known to request the following permissions from users:

  • Read and change all your data on the websites you visit.
  • Change your search settings.
  • Read and change your browsing history.

We have seen several clones of the Transit Guide Extension emerge in the past. Polarity Technologies Ltd. has published the 'Easy Driving Directions' and the 'Directions Express' prior to releasing the Transit Guide Extension. Also, the 'Transit Guide New Tab Search' page has a clone at Search.htransitschedule.co, which appears to be associated with a browser extension called 'Transit Schedule' that is published by Polarity as seen on search[.]htransitschedule[.]co/Home/Terms. The Transit Guide Extension may record what content you load on the Internet and your search terms to help ad publishers push related commercials to your screen. You can't customize the search options on the 'Transit Guide New Tab Search' page, and you might not like the browser redirects. The Transit Guide Extension is deemed as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP), and it can be removed safely with the help of a credible anti-spyware scanner.
