The Today in History New Tab acts as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP), as the new tabs open in a browser are changed into its page combined with a redirection of its search to the Yahoo Search. The Today in History New Tab is available in the Google Chrome store and when installed, will change the homepage and search engine of the affected Web browser. The Today in History New Tab also is linked to a browser hijacker that shows interesting events that happened on the current day that the new tab is open, alongside a clock and the prevailing temperature based on the geolocation.
When the Today in History New Tab is installed on a computer, the most common way it can be noticed is due to the following changes:
- The Today in History New Tab will change the default homepage to Today in History New Tab.
- The Today in History New Tab will change the default search provider of the browser to 4newtab.
- The Today in History New Tab adds the ability to modify the new tab functionality to launch its modified search portal.
- The Today in History New Tab loads into Web browsers through add-ons or extensions.
