Thefaceduck.com is a tactic Website with the only goal of showing unwanted ads to all users who fall for its tricks. This is a rather popular tactic spreading around the Web. First, an empty Website is set up. Then, by displaying several fake error messages or pop-up windows using various social-engineering tricks, the unsuspecting user is lured into clicking the 'Allow' button. No matter what the specific Website says that is going to happen, Thefaceduck.com, for example, has the following text: 'Checking your browser… to access the Website, click Allow,' is simply a lie.

When computer users click on the button, they are now subscribed to the push notification service of the Website, thus granting it the required permission to start displaying ads on the device's screen. Often even closing the browser won't be enough to prevent the ads from appearing.

Luckily, dealing with this type of tactic is not that difficult. All that affected users have to do is to revoke the permission granted to Thefaceduck.com through the 'Settings' menu of their respective browser.
