TheConverterSearch is a browser hijacker that causes redirects to potentially unsafe third-party websites. Malware creators have designed TheConverterSearch to promote the fake search enginefeed.theconvertersearch.comand to generate advertising revenues for its operators.
TheConverterSearch installs as a stand-alone program or a browser extension on infected computers. Then, it changes the browser's homepage and default search engine to feed.theconvertersearch.com. Consequently, all user search queries get redirected through this corrupted tool; in the end, a results search page from search.yahoo.com is displayed as TheConverterSearch is not able to generate any unique search results.
Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs) like TheConverterSearch typically spread through a method called bundling. Bundling means that software developers integrate such undesired tools into the installation package of other programs. When users download and install the whole package through the basic installation option, they do not notice the presence of additional installers that could be harmful to their machines. Another distribution method is through corrupted advertisements or banners.
