The Test My Speeds browser extension for Google Chrome is marketed as a tool that can help users keep track of parameters related to their Internet connection, which includes ping, speed, rate and stability. The Test My Speeds extension is a free-to-use product by Polarity Technologies Ltd., which offers services from Eightpoint Technologies Ltd. When you begin the installation of Test My Speeds it will require access to all your data on the websites you visit, bookmarks collection, Internet history and may change your new tab page to search.testmyspeeds.co. All services of Test My Speeds are offered via search.testmyspeeds.co but you don't need to install the extension to load the site correctly. Search.testmyspeeds.co is presented as a useful new tab replacement, which includes links to articles on broadbandchoices.co.uk and guides on fcc.gov.
You may be interested to know that Test My Speeds is a re-named version of the My Speedtest XP, which is deemed as riskware. Also, search.testmyspeeds.co is identical to search.myspeedtestxp.com and both link to the same external resources. The Test My Speeds extension does not provide standalone tools that provide information on your Internet connection. Instead, Test My Speeds relies on openspeedtest.com to feed users with relevant information. The service on openspeedtest.com is not operated and owned by Polarity Technologies Ltd. and Eightpoint Technologies Ltd. Both companies are not partners of openspeedtest.com and make money from users that search with search.testmyspeeds.co and allow Test My Speeds to collect statistics like their Internet history and downloads. The data that may be gathered by Test My Speeds is non-personally identifiable and may help advertisers associated with Polarity Technologies Ltd. and Eightpoint Technologies Ltd. generate custom-made ads on supported pages that you may visit.
Test My Speeds is perceived as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that may direct you to useful tools and content on the Internet. As stated above, you do not need to add Test My Speeds to your Internet client to load recommended content and the widget by openspeedtest.com at search.testmyspeeds.co. PC users that do not wish to take the risk of sharing information on their online routine with third parties related to Test My Speeds should not install the extension and others may want to use a trustworthy anti-spyware scanner to delete the tracking cookies that Test My Speeds may have downloaded.
