SONAR.DarkComet!gen1

By Sumo3000 in Trojans

Sonar.DarkComet!gen1 is a Trojan terrorizing poorly protected Windows based systems. Trojans often use masks to trick unwary PC users into clicking and downloading infectious programs and files. Trojan downloaders are able to exploit scripting in the back-end to download infectious files or programs automatically with just a visit to the page in which it is housed. Sonar.DarkComet!gen1 is able to deactivate weaker anti-virus programs, bypass firewalls and often remains resident in the background while the victim works unaware of Sonar.DarkComet!gen1 being installed on the computer.

Sonar.DarkComet!gen1 has cleverly changed the system's configuration and edit the registry so the malicious executable runs every time Windows is started. Manual removal may be possible, however, if Sonar.DarkComet!gen1 is fortified by a rootkit, Sonar.DarkComet!gen1 can mask and bury malicious files and components in the kernel, BIOS or MBR. Malicious files and components may be renamed to read the same as legitimate OS elements and the Trojan may hook legitimate running processes to circumvent activity. To avoid deleting the wrong files and corrupting the hard drive, you should rely on a professional anti-malware solution containing an anti-rookit component that can safely remove hidden malware.
