Search.socialaddons.top acts as a browser hijacker that is often bundled together with other freeware that may be downloaded off the Web. When it is installed, the browser hijacker sets the homepage of the search engine and Web browser to search.socialaddons.top. The Search Addons browser also may be bundled with other software on the Web so that it can be installed easily without the knowledge of the user. Some software bundles do not state the full contents of what they have to offer during installation so that it is possible for Social Addons to find its way onto a system without prior knowledge of the computer user.
Whenever Social Addons is present on an affected system, common symptoms may include the following:
- The Web browser default homepage is changed to search.socialaddons.top.
- The default search provider and the built-in search box also are changed to the same website.
- Social Addons also may modify the new tab function on the affected browser to launch this modified search portal as well.
- Social Addons loads into the Web browser through an add-on or extension.
