Why ShopDrop and Similar Adware Threats may Mean Trouble
Adware infections like ShopDrop tend to cause very similar symptoms from one computer to another. What follows are common complications that may be associated with ShopDrop and similar PUPs:
- PUPs like ShopDrop are usually designed to deliver advertising content to the affected Web browser. This means that ShopDrop will display a large number of irritating pop-up messages on the affected Web browser, usually interrupting the computer user's activities. ShopDrop may also replace advertisements on websites visited on the affected Web browser with its own potentially unsafe advertising material. Common advertisements linked to ShopDrop include video advertisements, audio advertisements, banners and in-text hyperlinks.
- ShopDrop may also make alterations to the settings of your Web browser, modifying its homepage and default search engine. Apart from these unwanted changes, ShopDrop may hijack a Web browser to force it to visit various Web pages affiliated with ShopDrop repeatedly, in order to generate revenue from affiliate marketing or from advertisements contained in these websites.
- ShopDrop may cause performance issues on the affected computer, mainly because of its low quality and because ShopDrop runs in the background and constantly consumes system resources. ShopDrop uses up your bandwidth, affecting your Internet connectivity and causing Web pages being very slow to load on the Web browser affected by ShopDrop.
