SevereWeatherCheck

With the extreme weather we have been observing in the past years, the need to have reliable, up-to-date information is becoming a necessity. This is where SevereWeatherCheck comes in with promises of weather updates and warnings, emergency alerts, and the ability to track severe weather changes in the user’s area. In addition, after SevereWeatherCheck on their computers, the users will have access to "trusted weather websites" from their browser’s New Tab directly.

Unfortunately, SevereWeatherCheck is yet another Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that will attempt to take over your browser. Users who have SevereWeatherCheck installed will notice that their New Tab page has been changed to http://www.severeweathercheck.com/homepage. The risks shouldn’t be overlooked as this PUP may provide unreliable search results or start displaying numerous advertisements that will clutter your screen.

Even if you installed SevereWeatherCheck willingly, it is still important to keep in mind that the PUP will collect all sorts of information. The application’s Privacy Policy states that it will collect the device type, the device’s unique identifiers (whether computer or mobile), the device’s hardware model, the device type, the operating system and IP address. Furthermore, all search queries made through the PUP’s search engine also will be logged and stored.

It is strongly advised to remove SevereWeatherCheck from your computer by using a legitimate anti-malware software preferably.
