How Error.servepolice.biz and Other Police Ransomware Work

Previous versions of the Police Ransomware scam typically take the form of Trojan infections that block all access to the entire affected computer. Error.servepolice.biz belongs to a new variant in this scam that only affects the victim's Web browser. Although the effect is overall weaker and less destructive, it is ironically an approach that may be even more effective. Computer users that lose all access to their computer are more likely to initiate action with a reliable security program than computer users that only lose part of their computer's functionality. Error.servepolice.biz's approach makes it likelier that computer users believe that the police have intercepted their Internet communications.
