Selected Search

The Selected Search is a browser hijacker, one that targets people all over the world. The owners of the search provider do not indicate a company name but do mention a physical address: 327-185 Yates Street, Victoria, BC V8V 4Y9, one that also is related to the browser hijacker Quicklogin.co. Both of the platforms were found to make changes to the Web browser settings. The infection occurs when the harmful Chrome extension, Selected Search, gets downloaded. That may not always happen with the knowledge of the users so that this add-on is not exactly wanted on a system if it makes changes of this kind. Just like Newsearch123.com, Select Search became successful in Vietnam, where it did most of its work. The Selected Search browser hijacker was used by users from Thailand, the US, Italy and Romania.

Analysis of the Web traffic of the domain showed that over 80% of the visits were made due to a successful online advertisement. Axszd.pro, Newtabtv.com and Filmetraduse.online are all paid publishers that promote Selected Search and the browser extension that makes it possible. The browser hijacker's search platform also shows promotional content by the Propeller Ads Media advertising network specifically. The company has been involved with other browser hijackers previously, such as Jamboxlive.com and Istartpageing.com. Users are advised to uninstall and get rid of the Selected Search as soon as possible to avoid unwanted ads and the browser hijacker's other tendencies. Installing the add-on means that the users allow the tool to read and change the content of any websites visited and to modify their privacy settings as well. What's more, the extension requires the users to have the Selected Search as their default search engine. The extension itself lacks and EULA and Privacy policy documents, which makes it highly suspicious as one might imagine.
