The MyStartab software is created by the infamous Imali Media Ltd. that are behind badware like NewTabTV Plus and Social Media NewTab. There are cases where Imali Media Ltd. can be connected to browser hijacking software as well. Security researchers do not recommend installing the MyStartab add-on that is promoted on Mystartab.com. The MyStartab add-on is advertised as a program that can improve the design and functionality of the new tab page and homepage significantly. Web surfers that stumble upon Mystartab.com are promised to benefit from features like built-in media player, 'share' buttons for several social media portals and a bookmarks manager to archive their favorite pages.
The MyStartab software is published as freeware and has versions for Google Chrome and Firefox that differ in appearance. For example, Chrome users will be provided with a minimalistic interface that resembles Gooogle.com from 2012. Meanwhile, Firefox users will be delivered a colorful start page with custom backgrounds and docks with links to services like Gmail, Pinterest and Wikipedia. Both versions of MyStartab might redirect users to Search.mystartab.com and might change the user's default search provider and start page settings. The MyStartabbrowse extension is programmed to alter the look of your new Tab page to facilitate its operations and provide a search field.
This is where we should make a few things crystal clear. The version for Google Chrome will redirect users to Search.yahoo.com when they use the search bar on the MyStartab New Tab. The version for Firefox will redirect users to Plusnetwork.com, which is an untrusted portal and may be connected to rogue security programs. Additionally, users may be shown pop-up windows on Search.mystartab.com that welcome them to install badware such as WinFix Pro which we have reported before. Security investigators classify the MyStartab add-on as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that might display phishing messages and present links to rogue security programs on your screen. You might want to install a trustworthy anti-malware instrument that can delete MyStartab and riskware on your PC.
