Search Maven is adware which, once installed on the PC, may insert a browser extension, add-on or plug-in in well-known Web browsers such as Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Mozilla Firefox. Search Maven may be developed to display unwanted pop-up advertisements and messages on the computer system. The Search Maven pop-up ads including numerous offers, deals, and discount coupons may show up on the PC if Search Maven finds out that the computer user is browsing shopping-related websites; therefore, some computer users may think that ads and deals delivered by Search Maven are part of the website. If the computer user clicks on any of the pop-up ads and messages shown by Search Maven, he may get continuously rerouted to questionable websites that may carry various malware threats. The main purpose of Search Maven may be to generate advertising revenue from increased website traffic and ad clicks.
