Search.hr is presented to Web surfers as a search service that employs the same color scheme you may be familiar with on Google.com. The Search.hr site is not associated with Google Inc. and appears to be an independent service that is provided by a company under the name of Cro-bit Ltd. Search.hr is not a real search engine and it functions as a redirect-gateway to Search.yahoo.com where users will find links to resources and services by Yahoo. Computer users reported cases of browser hijacking that involved the Search.hr site, which was loaded as the default start page, new tab page and search provider.
Affected users may have installed a free program that was developed in partnership with Cro-bit Ltd. The company is involved in Web development, Internet marketing, computer repair and mobile phone development. Free software developers that work with Cro-bit Ltd. may use its platform to publish sites like Search.hr and monetize your traffic on the site. However, Search.hr is not perceived as a reliable search service and you may not like the redirects to Search.yahoo.com. Computer security analysts add that Search.hr has several clones hosted at the following addresses:
- searchcontrolsettings.bid
- searchcontrolsettings.club
- searchcontrolsettings.space
- start.searchcontrolsettings.top
- searchcontrolsettings.us
- searchengaged.com
Some of the clones are published under the name Search Engage Ltd., which we have mentioned in our article about the Search Engage browser add-on. Evidently, the Search.hr does not have a valid digital certificate, and it uses the one for searchdimension.online. Your connection to Search.hr is not encrypted and third parties may eavesdrop on your data transmission. Therefore, you shouldn’t input personally identifiable information and banking details on Search.hr, as well as related portals. Web surfers that are affected by the Search.hr browser hijacker may want to use a reputable anti-malware utility to scan their systems, remove unwanted software and purge add-ons that may have a negative impact on their online experiences.
