The Searchbee.net Web portal is presented to Internet users as "a powerful search engine that finds stuff fast" as stated on the main page of Searchbee.net. The site came to attention after reports of browser hijacks and unwanted redirects started appearing. A closer look at Searchbee.net and a few tests later it became apparent that the site may not load search results correctly and host harmful code identified as HTML/DSPark.B in 2013. Analysis of Searchbee.net did not find potentially dangerous scripts on the page, but the search functionality is non-existent at the time of research. Some Web filtering services like Scumware.org are known to present alerts that Searchbee.net is unsafe to browse. However, third-party security scanners have confirmed there are no issues with the site.
That does not mean you are not likely to find a search plug-in powered by Searchbee.net in free software packages. PC users that handle free software packages with the 'Express' option may allow an optional browser extension to edit their Internet settings and redirect their searches to Searchbee.net unknowingly. Your searches in Google Chrome, Opera, and Mozilla Firefox may be rerouted to Searchbee.net if you have installed an unfamiliar app recently. Extensions, plugins and Web-based apps that edit your online preferences without notifying and asking you for permission can be classified as browser hijackers. You should revise the Extension/Add-on Manager in your browser and see if there are unfamiliar names listed on the screen. If you have installed a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) associated with Searchbee.net, there may be no icon and information in your browser. Risky applications can be loaded in the AppData directory and run as an embedded extension. The Searchbee.net browser redirects may be caused a by a third-party program, which runs separately from your Web browser. Cyber security analysts advise users to take advantage of a credible security scanner and perform a complete system scan, which can allow you to remove riskware and browser hijackers. Browsing Searchbee.net may trigger alerts from AV vendors that include the following detection names:
- HEUR:Trojan.Script.Generic
- HTML:Phishing-Q [Trj]
- Mal/Phish-A
- PWS:HTML/Phish.FD
- Trojan.Fraudster.517
- Trojan.HTML.Phish.fd (v)
