The Save Tabs Chrome Extension is a product that has an official page at Savetabs.net and a dedicated page on the Chrome Web Store at Chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/save-tabs/dgjepfldodmdfmdidhhgamnklbdibndi. The app is proposed to Google Chrome users as a solution to the problem of opening too many tabs that slow down your browser. PC users who explore a lot of images and videos on the Internet may be bothered by the slow performance of Google Chrome when too many tabs are loaded in the background. The problem is particularly severe on machines with less than 8 GB of RAM while more powerful processor may not have difficulties handling a large number of open tabs.
The Save Tabs Chrome Extension is an app that may help many users in that situation by closing all tabs and arranging them into one or more groups. Researchers who tested the Save Tabs Chrome Extension stated that the extension performs as advertised and allows Google Chrome to save on more than 30% of memory usage. However, the Save Tabs Chrome Extension is deemed as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) because it does not feature information about its developer, there are no updates available for the app, and the program appears to show advertisements from time to time. PC users who install the Save Tabs Chrome Extension might want to take into consideration that it requires the following privileges:
- Read and change all your data on the websites you visit.
- Display notifications.
- Manage your apps, extensions and themes.
Some tests showed that the Save Tabs Chrome Extension manifests as an icon in the navigation panel and allows users to close all opened tabs indiscriminately. That means you can choose which tabs are to be closed by the Save Tabs Chrome Extension. The Save Tabs Chrome Extension may use its right to show notifications and generate dialog boxes in the bottom left corner that include links to paid promotional materials. The marketing pitch at Chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/save-tabs/dgjepfldodmdfmdidhhgamnklbdibndi says that Save Tabs can 'save up to 95% memory usage,' but we found that to be an overstatement. Computer users that add the Save Tabs Chrome Extension to their Internet client may find it beneficial, but they may be shown potentially unwanted advertisements. Removing the Save Tabs Chrome Extension can be done via the Extensions Manager but you may want to remove the tracking cookies it downloaded by using a credible anti-spyware scanner.
