RuTube Chrome Extension

The RuTube Chrome Extension is a Russian browser plug-in for Google Chrome, which may arrive as a drive-by download of an adware bundle, thereby landing on the Google Chrome's list of extensions. As such, the RuTube Chrome Extension is fully capable of tracking the user's browsing history and displaying sponsored advertisements. Clicking on such advertisements generates revenue for the RuTube Chrome Extension's exploiters and may take the user to potentially dangerous, malware-laden websites.

While the RuTube Chrome Extension does not seem to have any unsafe inbuilt components, the plug-in may still pose a threat to the user in three main aspects. On the one hand, the RuTube Chrome Extension intrudes on Google Chrome automatically. This behavior alone is in stark contrast to all legitimate extensions. The latter is freely available on the corresponding Web store of each browser. By contrast, the RuTube Chrome Extension is nowhere to be found in the Google Chrome Web store, which means that no one can install the plug-in even if they wanted to. What is more, if the RuTube Chrome Extension is not available in the official Google Chrome Store, it is very likely that it will be advertised on shady networks and websites. The mystery surrounding the RuTube Chrome Extension raises strong suspicions about its real value and true nature.

Bearing the 'Смотри то, что любишь!,' or 'Watch what you love!' slogan, the RuTube plug-in is named after a popular Russian video platform, which is among the forty most visited websites in the country. However, there is no sufficient data to confirm whether this is a direct connection or pure coincidence. Based on the facts mentioned above, the RuTube Chrome Extension bears all the features that are typical of a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP). That’s why, it is strongly recommended to remove the browser plugin from the extension list, run a complete scan, and reset Google Chrome to its default settings.
