Pup.optional.defaulttab, otherwise known as DefaultTab or Default Tab is a potentially unwanted program, which changes browser settings on the hijacked Internet browser. Pup.optional.defaulttab substitutes the default homepage or search provider with some advertising website, or modifies the default tab of the compromised Internet browser any time the computer user attempts to open a blank page, with some deceitful commercial website. Pup.optional.defaulttab incorporates adware, installs toolbars or has other uncertain purposes. Technically, Pup.optional.defaulttab is not a virus, but it encompasses a variety of damaging traits, such as rootkit functionalities to conceal itself deeply into the affected PC, browser hijacking and, generally, just interfering with the computer user's experience. Pup.optional.defaulttab uses blackhat SEO to boost traffic of the website and make a profit from click fraud. Pup.optional.defaulttab can access the targeted computer packed with freeware and shareware applications (download-managers,video recording/streaming or PDF creators). Pup.optional.defaulttab is also packed within the custom installer on many download websites, such as CNET, Brothersoft or Softonic, so if the web user has downloaded a software product from these websites, he/she might also installed Pup.optional.defaulttab throughout the setup process of the software product.
