ProSearchConverter

ProSearchConverter Description

ProSearchConverter is a rogue program that researchers classify as a Possibly Unwanted Application (PUA). Once a device gets infected with ProSearchConverter, this harmful tool modifies the browser's settings with the primary intention of promoting its own fake search enginefeed.prosearchconverter.com. After these unsolicited changes have taken place, the affected browser launches the malware's URL as the new homepage, new tab address, and new default search engine. All user search queries are also rerouted through the hijacker's fake search tool, sending users to sponsored third-party websites to generate advertising revenues for ProSearchConverter's owners. As these phony Web search tools do not have the technical ability to run independent searches, they use some legit search engine like Bing or Yahoo to generate a results page and present it to users.

Researchers consider ProSearchConverter a Potentially Unwanted Application due to its stealthy distribution methods. Usually, it comes bundled within another program's installation files, and users do not even notice it is being dropped on their devices.

Furthermore, browser hijackers like ProSearchConverter can have additional harmful features. The initial browser settings cannot be recovered without removing the underlying malicious program that has altered them. Most browser hijackers also track personal data, including browsing history, search terms, geolocations, and even login details for online accounts. To ensure the integrity of your device and your data, you can remove ProSearchConverter through an automated malware removal tool.
