The Pirvatesearch Extension program is promoted as a browser extension that can help users avoid the tracking on search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo. The Pirvatesearch Extension is said to protect your privacy as DuckDuckGo does. However, the Pirvatesearch Extension program behaves like a browser hijacker, and it may not perform as you are lead to believe. The Pirvatesearch Extension is known under several names since its developers tend to re-brand their software and release it to users again and again. At the time of writing, the Pirvatesearch Extension program is reported to run under the following names:
- 'PrivSrch' (extension id: pkcpbihfjedipmiaifhlklablclimede)
- 'SrchWWS' (extension id: daofcndkjhimbcliegplfiecjdamfaoc)
The Pirvatesearch browser hijacker may be promoted to users via free software bundles and ads displayed by adware. Computer security researchers report that the Pirvatesearch browser hijacker may acquire access to your bookmarks, Internet history downloads log and data you exchange over unencrypted connections when it is installed. Additionally, the Pirvatesearch Extension may change your homepage, new tab page, and default search provider settings so that you are rerouted through several gateways to a landing page on Search.yahoo.com. An investigation into cases that involve the Pirvatesearch Extension revealed that Web surfers might be rerouted via tiposyh[.]club to search[.]hr then to services.searchy[.]info and finally to search.yahoo[.]com. The redirect chain allows the developers of the Pirvatesearch Extension to claim advertising revenue from several sources. You might notice the following notifications in the browser's status bar:
Connecting to tiposyh[.]club...
Transferring to search[.]hr...
Waiting for services.searchy[.]info...
Sending request to search.yahoo[.]com...
The Pirvatesearch browser hijacker may display banners and pop-up windows with content from yutksd25[.]club that is flagged as an unreliable domain by URL scanners and Web content filters. PC users that are infected with the Pirvatesearch (PrivSrch & SrchWWS) browser hijacker should not click on the ads loaded from yutksd25[.]club and cancel the automatic download of software, which is advertised as updates to Java and Adobe Flash. The Pirvatesearch Extension may invite users to install riskware and generate pay-per-install revenue for its creators.
