The PDF Convert Tab browser extension at hxxps://chrome.google[.]com/webstore/detail/pdf-convert-tab/dhgmjcnnankiakilimffegjaalghdgmh is said to be offered by 'Homework Helper' and override the new tab page for users. The PDF Convert Tab extension is said to provide access to a 'PDF Convert Tab Chrome Plugin' as described on the Chrome Web Store page. The application does not require extensive privileges other than the right to change your default new tab page. Once you install the PDF Convert Tab extension, a.k.a. the 'PDF Convert Tab Chrome Plugin', you are directed to the URL h[tt]p://www.pdfconverttab[.]com/success.html.
The new tab button now opens an integrated page from the PDF Convert Tab extension that has two search bars — one at the center and one at the top left corner of the new tab page. Also, the PDF Convert Tab page includes two buttons titled 'Convert PDF to other Format' and 'Convert File to PDF' that are supposed to help users convert files in PDF format and vice versa. However, the conversion features of PDF Convert Tab are not configured properly and the service fails to convert simple text files to PDF format. It appears the conversion requests are handled by hxxp://www.pdfconvertsearch[.]com but conversion requests result in an error message that says:

The PDF Convert Tab extension is deemed as a Potentially Unwanted program (PUP) that may offer PDF conversion features to Web surfers. The Web search functionality of the PDF Convert Tab seems to work just fine, and searches lead users to hxxp://www.pdfconvertsearch[.]com/search?keyword=[search terms]. The online search provided is stated to be powered by Microsoft Corp., but we did not find proof of that in the Web page code of hxxp://www.pdfconvertsearch[.]com. You can expect to receive text and image results at hxxp://www.pdfconvertsearch[.]com only. The primary services of PDF Convert Tab are not working, and the Web search by hxxp://www.pdfconvertsearch[.]com is not on par with Google, Bing and Yahoo.
