MyNewsFree

Security experts warned about a Possibly Unwanted Program (PUP) that has been annoying computer users lately. They named it MyNewsFree. Although its name is not appealing, MyNewsFree has a magical word on its name, 'free,' which may be the catch to induce gullible computer users to visit it. MyNewsFree can find its way to a computer by being included in the installation of free software, corrupted advertisements, bogus Flash Payer installer, or, as we said before, installed from its website by computer users looking for 'free news.'

When inside a computer, the first action of MyNewsFree will be to change the user's homepage, new tab settings and search engine. From there on, their default search engine will be search.mynewsfree.com, which is sponsored by search.mynewsfree.com. The consequences of this change are that all your search queries will be answered by search.yahoo.com. Although secure, search.yahoo.com may not provide search complete as Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc.

Malware analysts do not consider PUPs as threats. However, due to the deceptive ways they use to enter a computer, and the numerous issues that may occur when they are inside a computer, the recommendation is to remove them ASAP. PUPs can display numerous unwanted advertisements that, if clicked, may lead to suspicious or corrupted websites, monitor the users' activities and collect information that will be sold to third parties.
