The MyMapsExpress Toolbar from Mindspark Interactive Network, Inc. is a free program that is advertised on the Chrome Web Store and mymapsexpress.com as an enhancement extension for browsers like Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. You should note that the MyMapsExpress Toolbar does not appear to have a verified version on addons.mozilla.org and microsoft.com/en-us/iegallery. The MyMapsExpress Toolbar program is an ad-supported app that is developed by Mindspark Interactive Network, Inc. and distributed with the help of APN, LLC. The MyMapsExpress Toolbar is supposed to help users get directions, maps, and traffic information fast on their new tab page. PC users that add MyMapsExpress to their browser should take into consideration that the software needs the following privileges:
- Read and change all their data on the websites they visit.
- Read and change their browsing history.
- Manage their downloads.
- Manage their apps, extensions and themes.
The new tab powered by the MyMapsExpress Toolbar loads hp.myway.com/mymapsexpress/ttab02/index.html that is customized version of Search.myway.com, which is associated with browser hijackers and riskware. Additionally, the MyMapsExpress extension is almost identical to DirectionsOnline, OnlineMapFinder, and DirectionsBuilder released by Mindspark earlier in 2017. The new tab powered by hp.myway.com/mymapsexpress/ttab02/index.html includes links to Groupon, Amazon, Facebook, Google Maps, and Zagat.com, which you may like. However, the search bar presented by MyMapsExpress on your revamped new tab is powered by a custom Yahoo engine that you might not like. Users that install the MyMapsExpress Toolbar may be rerouted to the following page automatically:
h[tt]p://ext.ask.com/index.jhtml?productName=MyMapsExpress&installDate=2017070303
The link above points to a notification that says:
'Get the Ask search extension now - free
Install this extension and make Ask the default search in your Chrome address bar.'
As mentioned above, MyMapsExpress Toolbar from Mindspark Interactive Network, Inc. is distributed to users with help from APN, LLC., and you might be suggested to make Ask.com your primary search provider. Following all instructions displayed by MyMapsExpress might result in a radically different Web browsing experience for users. Your new tab page would be taken by hp.myway.com/mymapsexpress/ttab02/index.html and offer a custom Yahoo search while your search bar/address bar/Omnibox would generate results via Ask.com. The MyMapsExpress Toolbar is deemed as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that may show targeted commercials on your new tab and offer many sponsored search results.
It is recommended that you read the Terms of Use and Privacy Agreements associated with APN, LLC. and Mindspark Interactive Network, Inc. before you decide to keep using MyMapsExpress. PC users that are not comfortable with many browser redirects targeting promotional materials and hp.myway.com/mymapsexpress/ttab02/index.html may wish to have the MyMapsExpress Toolbar removed with a credible anti-spyware scanner. AV engines may show alerts related to the MyMapsExpress Toolbar and use the following detection names:
- Adware.AdLoadCRT.Win32.544
- MyWebSearch.J (v) (not malicious)
- PUA.Mindsparki.Gen
- PUA.Toolbar.Agent!
- PUA/MyWebSearch.Gen
- PUP.Optional.MindSpark
- Win32.Adware.Mindspark.E
