MusicTab Newtab

The MusicTab Newtab browser extension is proposed by a developer called 'mymusic' on the Chrome Web Store. The MusicTab Newtab extension is recorded to be running on at least 3,200 Web browsers, but there is not a single review on its product page. The MusicTab Newtab program is advertised as a new tab replacement that enables users to manage and listen to favorite radio stations on the Internet. The MusicTab Newtab extension can be found at http://musictab.org, which produces a pop-up window with chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/musictab-newtab-extension/mhgndhaieeiclepicigplimlkcnnlfpe. Installing the MusicTab Newtab is preceded by another pop-up that says:

'Add "MusicTab Newtab Extension"?
It can:
Replace the page you see when opening a new tab.
Read your browsing history.
Manage your apps, extensions, and themes.'

The MusicTab Newtab application reconfigures the default new tab page in Google Chrome to https://newtab.getmusictab.org/113/default/index.html. The MusicTab Newtab extension may add a drop-down menu to the navigation panel and show links to Spotify, Pandora, Amazon Music, Google Music, SoundCloud and Last.fm. You should note that the technology powering MusicTab Newtab is SHOUTcast and you will not experience the same quality of audio as with services like Spotify. The MusicTab Newtab extension is developed by a marketing company called Tightrope Interactive, Inc. (www.tightropeinteractive.com) that monetizes it by tracking your search queries, records the sites you like to explore and shares information with ad platforms. The MusicTab Newtab available via newtab.getmusictab.org acts like a redirect-gateway with a built-in search by Yahoo, which you can't change. The MusicTab Newtab software from http://musictab.org is deemed as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP). The MusicTab Newtab extension may apply undesirable changes to your Web browser, and you may want to remove it.
