MTView, usually detected as MTView.exe (it's file name) is a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) that may cause performance issues on affected computers. MTView's digital signature belongs to Zhu Weiqin. This program that may be installed in the Program Files folder was released in 2015 and is not considered threatening. However, MTView may not provide any kind of useful or interesting service and, instead, may cause a variety of error messages and performance issues on affected computers. Because of this, PC security researchers strongly recommend that computer users remove MTView from their computers and then perform a full scan of them with the help of a reliable security program that is fully up-to-date. The confusion related to MTView is that MTView is an image viewing application targeted towards Chinese speakers. Computer users that do not speak Chinese may be confused about the messages in Chinese appearing on their computers, as well as MTView's propensity for renaming image files so that the extensions now appear in Chinese characters.

MTView may Cause Error Messages and Performance Issues on Affected Computers

MTView is implemented very poorly and may cause a large number of error messages on affected computers. The following are some of the common error messages that may be linked to MTView:

mtview.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

mtview.exe - Application Error. The instruction at "0xXXXXXXXX" referenced memory at "0xXXXXXXXX". The memory could not be "read/written". Click on OK to terminate the program.

MTview has stopped working.

End Program - mtview.exe. This program is not responding.

mtview.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

mtview.exe - Application Error. The application failed to initialize properly (0xXXXXXXXX). Click OK to terminate the application.

Most computer users have commented that MTView should be removed from a computer since MTView may not provide any type of useful service. Reports have surfaced that MTView may display messages in Chinese and cause computers to freeze, slow down or crash frequently.

Common Issues You may Face While Dealing with and Removing MTView

In most cases, MTView may be installed automatically. One problem that has been reported related to MTView is that it may change file names automatically, often using Chinese characters (making it very annoying for computer users to deal with). MTView seems to target image files, particularly BMP and JPG files. This is because MTView seems to be an image viewer. Computer users may have to restore their default image program in their computer settings (in most cases, the Windows Photo Viewer). To remove MTView, computer users will need to uninstall this program. To do this they should follow the steps bellow:

  1. Uninstall MTView using it's related 'uninstall' application. You also can remove MTView using the Windows Control Panel.
  2. A pop-up message will appear in Chinese. The message is simply a prompt asking if the computer user wants to remove the program. Unlike messages in English, the 'Yes' button is on the right side. Clicking on it will uninstall MTView.
  3. Perform a full scan of your computer with the help of a reliable security program that is fully up-to-date to ensure that no other unwanted components have been installed.

One of the main complaints regarding MTView is its use of the Chinese language, making it unintelligible to non-Chinese speakers. It's not entirely certain how this program, which may be a legitimate photo viewing application targeted towards Chinese speakers, could have been installed on computers outside of that country. In most cases, MTView may be bundled with another program. Because of this, computer users should take extra care when installing any software, and not agree to install any added components without being sure of what will be installed exactly.
