MovieBoxSearch

MovieBoxSearch is a Possibly Unwanted Program (PUP) designed to promote a fake search engine. MovieBoxSearch modifies specific browser settings and prevents the affected users from changing them to their original state to achieve its goal.

MovieBoxSearch sets the homepage, new page tab, and the browser's default search engine to open movieboxsearch.com. However, when the user conducts a search query, MovieBoxSearch cannot provide a list of relevant results as it lacks such capability. Instead, the search query is redirected through a legitimate search engine - search.yahoo.com.

Most PUPs with browser-hijacker functions collect various user information and MovieBoxSearch is not an exception. MovieBoxSearch tracks device and browser type, as well as visited pages and clicks performed by the user, the operating system, Internet provider, language preferences, time stamps, etc. The IP of the user also will be logged.
