The MirageISO software from Sichuan Zhoushan Weizhen Technology Co., Ltd. that you can find at Mirageiso.com is categorized as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP). The MirageISO desktop application is advertised as a free tool that allows you to load a disc image without having a physical disc and a DVD/CD drive. The MirageISO program is similar to other free emulator applications like eMule from Emule-project.com and Virtual Clone Drive by Elaborate Bytes AG. It is stated on mirageiso.com that MirageISO supports fourteen of the most used data formats regarding disc images, but the app lacks a support page and forum. Additionally, there are no Terms of Use and Privacy Agreement published on the official site.
PC users who have installed the MirageISO software reported that their browser was not as fast as before installing the MirageISO app. Lab tests showed that the MirageISO software from Sichuan Zhoushan Weizhen Technology Co., Ltd. is designed to perform as stated on its official site but the program uses a hidden instance of Internet Explorer to click on advertisements. The MirageISO riskware is observed to connect to sites like ad.soicos[.]com, tj.51Ltj[.]com and dangyu[.]info and click on ads to generate revenue for its creators. The network transmissions by MirageISO may interfere with the perforce of Internet Explorer and torrent clients. The company behind the MirageISO desktop app should have disclosed that MirageISO is an ad-supported program that may load advertisements. PC users that may be using MirageISO on a daily basis may want to reconsider keeping the programming running in the background for a prolonged period. There is nothing wrong with a free program monetizing some of your resources, as long as it is disclosed properly and users have the option to opt-out. However, there is no adequate documentation published on mirageiso.com, and you may want to remove the program with the assistance of a reliable security scanner.
