The MessengerTime software from SoftNinjas is promoted as an IM client for people who are part of the Facebook social media. The MessengerTime program is promoted as being an alternative to the Messenger for Desktop software by Alexandru Rosianu. However, both desktop applications are not recognized as official IM clients by Facebook Inc. The only official platform for desktop access to the Messenger IM client by Facebook Inc. is available through hxxps://www.messenger[.]com and there are apps for iOS, Windows Phone, and Android at the time of writing this.
We have received complaints about the MessengerTime software from SoftNinjas. User reports suggest the app is distributed via freeware bundles that fail to display information about their content in an honest fashion. Additionally, the developers have a rather modest site on hxxp://www.softninjas[.]com, which does not include a Privacy Policy and Terms of Use Agreement. The MessengerTime app is reported of injecting advertisements online. Web surfers have noticed ad boxes, banners and pop-up windows that carry slogans such as 'Powered by MessengerTime' and 'Sponsored by MessengerTime.' There are no names listed on hxxp://www.softninjas[.]com, contact details, a NASDAQ registration or any relevant information, except for a few images that are part of a WordPress theme and generic text. The MessengerTime product from SoftNinjas may change your new tab settings to hxxps://www.messenger[.]com that is the legitimate Messenger IM client by Facebook Inc., but you should not perceive SoftNinjas as an official partner to Facebook. The MessengerTime desktop app is deemed as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) with adware capabilities. You might wish to reconsider installing the MessengerTime software and use a credible anti-spyware scanner to remove the associated tracking cookies and Web beacons.
