Infosec researchers have come across yet another untrustworthy page trying to take advantage of visitors. This shady site is called Mackledcity.com and has been specifically designed to facilitate the promotion of browser notification spam. The page also could redirect users to various sites that are highly likely to be unreliable or even fraudulent in nature. It is worth noting that almost all users end up visiting pages like Mackledcity.com through redirects initiated by websites that use rogue advertising networks.

Mackledcity.com Deceives Visitors with a Fake CAPTCHA Check
The behavior of rogue sites can be influenced by the visitor's IP address or geolocation, meaning that such factors could potentially determine the clickbait or lure content presented on such Web pages.
Mackledcity.com has been observed using deceptive tactics by utilizing a fake CAPTCHA verification process to trick visitors into unknowingly subscribing to its push notification. The Web page shows an image of a robot accompanied by text instructing visitors to click 'Allow' if they are not a robot. However, upon clicking the 'Allow' button, users also are redirected to another website called Getnomadtblog.com, which operates in a virtually identical way to Mackledcity.com.
Rogue websites exploit their notification feature to conduct intrusive advertising campaigns. These advertisements serve as a platform for promoting various schemes, untrustworthy or threatening software, as well as distributing malware.
Don’t Fall for Tricks Such as False CAPTCHA Checks
Users can look for several typical signs that can help differentiate a fake CAPTCHA check from a legitimate one. Firstly, they should pay attention to the appearance and design of the CAPTCHA. Legitimate CAPTCHAs usually have a consistent and professional look, with clear and well-defined characters or images to verify human interaction. Fake CAPTCHAs, on the other hand, may exhibit inconsistencies, poor graphics, or distorted characters that are difficult to decipher.
Secondly, users can consider the context in which the CAPTCHA is presented. Legitimate CAPTCHAs are often used in situations where user verification is necessary, such as during account creation, login processes, or high-security transactions. Fake CAPTCHAs, however, may appear unexpectedly or in unrelated contexts, such as on a Web page that does not require any sensitive action.
Additionally, users should be cautious of CAPTCHAs that do not follow the standard behavior of legitimate ones. Legitimate CAPTCHAs typically require users to complete a simple task or solve a straightforward puzzle to prove their human identity. Fake CAPTCHAs, on the other hand, may have unusual or seemingly unrelated tasks.
Users also can examine the behavior and functionality of the CAPTCHA. Legitimate CAPTCHAs usually do not serve any hidden purpose or redirect users to other websites. Fake CAPTCHAs, however, may redirect users to suspicious or unrelated sites, attempt to download unwanted software or ask for sensitive information.
Lastly, users should trust their instincts and exercise caution when encountering CAPTCHAs that seem suspicious or out of the ordinary. If something feels off or if the CAPTCHA check raises doubts, it is advisable to refrain from interacting with it and consider seeking additional information or assistance from trusted sources.
