iVIDI Ads

By GoldSparrow in Adware

iVIDI ads have been associated with PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs). These unwanted components may be installed as Web browser extensions, add-ons and plug-ins. These types of components may be used to generate revenue by displaying advertisements on affected computers. iVIDI advertisements are just one type of the many advertisements that are associated with these types of tactics. PUPs linked to iVIDI are not technically threatening, but they might as well be if one considers the many symptoms associated with these types of problems. iVIDI itself may advertise hoaxes that will try to obtain the computer users' credit card information and other data. iVIDI may be linked to the following symptoms on computers:

  • iVIDI advertisements may appear in a pop-up window or in a new tab on the affected Web browser repeatedly and unexpectedly.
  • iVIDI advertisements also may be inserted into websites viewed on the affected Web browser.
  • iVIDI may be accompanied by numerous other issues, including performance problems on the affected computer, Web browser redirects and other unwanted behaviors.

iVIDI advertisements may be caused by PUPs, low-level threats that are not as harmful as viruses or Trojans, but that may still cause a wide number of problems on affected computers. PC security researchers recommend removing PUPs associated with iVIDI immediately to ensure that iVIDI and its associated problems stop appearing on affected computers.

How iVIDI may be Used to Make Money at Your Expense

The main purpose of iVIDI and their associated PUPs is to generate revenue at the expense of computer users. Although there is nothing wrong with using advertising content to make money (that is, after all, how most websites subsist), PUPs linked to iVIDI may generate revenue without giving computer users anything in return. These components may not deliver any kind of useful or interesting content, instead preying on inexperienced computer users. They also may be poorly implemented, meaning that components associated with iVIDI may make it very difficult to use the affected computer effectively. There are numerous ways in which iVIDI may be used to generate revenue, including the following:

  • iVIDI may generate revenue directly from advertising, making money every time iVIDI advertisements are displayed or computer users click on their content.
  • iVIDI advertisements may be associated with affiliate marketing schemes. PUPs associated with iVIDI may insert affiliate marketing code into websites and links viewed by the affected computer user.
  • PUPs associated with iVIDI may use tracking cookies and other components to keep track of the computer users' online activities, browsing habits, searches and similar data. This information may be used to deliver targeted advertisements or sold to a third party for marketing purposes. Unfortunately, this information may also be used for more nefarious purposes eventually, such as identity theft or to carry out other tactics.

Why iVIDI may Appear on a Web Browser

In most cases, the appearance of iVIDI advertisements may means that the computer user has installed a PUP. Most PUPs associated with iVIDI may be distributed by bundling them with a low-quality program or with a legitimate program that is being distributed by questionable third parties. Although computer users may have the option to avoid installing the PUP while installing this new software, PUP creators do not make it easy for computer users to avoid iVIDI. Because of this, PC security researchers strongly advise computer users to take steps to read user agreements and installation instructions carefully when installing any new software. To avoid iVIDI and similar components, computer users should decline any offers to install Web browser extensions, toolbars, add-ons or other bundled applications.
