The History Open extension is published as a free-to-use app on Historyopen.com, but the 'ADD TO CHROME' button does not work. The History Open is one of those simplistic extensions that offer "quality of life" improvements to mundane tasks. The History Open extension is available to users who run Google Chrome, SRWare Iron, Vivaldi, Yandex Browser and Slimjet. The name of the extension is self-explanatory on what it does. Installing the History Open app allows users to access their Internet history via a drop-down menu, which is loaded via a custom icon in the navigation bar. You will find the icon of History Open placed before the menu icon of your browser and past the URL bar.
Computer security researchers alert that the History Open extension from Historyopen.com is a clone of the History Button adware by Historybutton.net that we have covered at the end of July 2017. Both extensions do not offer a valid digital signature and lack ownership information. Additionally, the History Open extension is not available on the Chrome Web Store for safety reasons. The History Open app had a page at Chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/history-open/icfhggboopebcohpcffdgnbmodalpbic but it was removed as soon as reports of suspicious activity were submitted to Google and an investigation confirmed there were problems. The developer of History Open is suspected of releasing ad-supported extensions every month and claiming ad revenue from platforms like the Google AdWords and the Yahoo Ads. While the core functionality in History Open is present, the app is responsible for loading marketing materials on your display as well. The ads by History Open help the developers to monetize the installation of their product. Web surfers that keep History Open attached to their browsers may experience pop-up windows and redirects to recommended content. You may be suggested to download trial versions of shareware and write feedback on promotional materials. The History Open browser extension from Historyopen.com is classified as adware and Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) by various AV manufacturers. You may want to remove the History Open app and minimize the chances of being exposed to insecure ads.
