Hdtop.pro is an untrusty website that aims at acquiring permission to deliver promotional messages on users' computers or mobile phones. The website achieves that goal through a misleading tactic based on social engineering tricks. Namely, when people visit Hdtop.pro, the page pretends to be loading some video content, while at the same time, pop-ups with the following text show up:
'Hdtop.pro wants to Show notifications
Press Allow to watch the video'
As this website is a scam and has no meaningful content, clicking on the 'Allow' button only gives the page permission to deliver pop-ups on subscribers' screens. After that, Hdtop.pro will start sending push-notifications, which users cannot stop until they remove the underlying potentially threatening software. These advertisements also threaten users' online privacy and safety because they promote untrusty websites, like pages offering Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs), online games, adult content, and so on. Such websites are known to infect with various destructive malware threats.
The push-notifications permission can be removed from the affected browser's settings. However, if Hdtop.pro advertisements keep showing up, most likely, an adware program or a browser hijacker is working silently in the background of the affected device. Experts recommend using a certified anti-malware program for users experiencing undesired pop-ups and browser redirects.
