The GreatZip program is promoted as an archive manager that allows users to pack individual files into a single archive file for secure data exchange. The GreatZip software can be found at greatzip.com, which is not a reliable site. Greatzip.com is not an interactive page but a large image that has four active hyperlinks — FEATURES, FAQ, CONTACT and DOWNLOAD NOW. There are no screenshots of the UI for the GreatZip program, but the marketing pitch on the FEATURES page says:
'GreatZip provides a simple user interface that conceals some very powerful features. From advanced encryption algorithms that would take millennia to crack to a beautiful UI that keeps things simple and organized, there's a reason that most people who try GreatZip continue to use it over every other compression platform on the market.'
The GreatZip software does not include copyright information, and it is provided to users as freeware. You are not required to pay for installing and using the program for commercial and home purposes. The GreatZip desktop app is dispersed among Windows users thanks to a network of free software developers. However, you should take into consideration that GreatZip is an ad-supported program like Z-Zip and 4zip that reside in the same software segment. PC users may be able to use GreatZip and pack data, but they may find ads powered by GreatZip in their browser and notification areas. The GreatZip program is designed to run in the system background continuously and start with Windows on boot up. The GreatZip desktop app may read information like your Internet history, bookmarks collection and downloads log to help advertisers push relevant promotional materials to your machine.
The ads by GreatZip may be hosted on banners and notifications in the tray area. You may be suggested to install recommended programs from third-party vendors and explore offers on unreliable online stores. The GreatZip software is recognized as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that has limited functionality concerning data manipulation and shows advertisements. You may want to use a trustworthy anti-spyware scanner to remove the GreatZip software and related tracking cookies.
