GetVideoSearch

GetVideoSearch is a Possibly Unwanted Program (PUP) that redirects all user searchers through a fake search engine. To achieve its goal, GetVideoSearch alters some crucial settings of the affected browser. Specifically, GetVideoSearch changes the homepage, new tab address, and default search engine, replacing them with the con artists' URL - feed.getvideosearch.com. In some cases, GetVideoSearch installs as a browser extension on target devices, while in others, it comes as a standalone program with the same functionalities.

After hijacking the users' browser, GetVideoSearch redirects all user searches through its own search engine, generating artificial traffic and advertising revenue for its partner pages. Then, GetVideoSearch displays a results page derived from a legit search engine because it does not have the technology to deliver unique search results on its own. Any shown results can be irrelevant; however, they also may be injected with sponsored links and potentially unsafe advertisements and banners.

Programs like GetVideoSearch are considered potentially unwanted, as they install on computers in a semi-legit way. Their creators usually bundle them within the installation files of freeware as additional downloads, so they land on PCs automatically. Many of them have features that can cause severe privacy issues, like extracting the user information and browsing data. Therefore, GetVideoSearch should be removed as soon as possible from all devices.
