The GamerzLand Search Extension is a browser extension distributed through the website [hxxp://www.lg.gamerz-land.com/gamerzlandb/gamerzlandb/n/zz/]. The GamerzLand Search Extension is a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that has been developed by the same publisher who released the Search Manager, the Secure Search Extension, and the SPOTS – A Better Way to Start browser extensions previously. The GamerzLand Search is marketed as a tool that allows users to search for games in the top gaming websites, offering direct and quick access to the latest games available on the Internet. The GamerzLand Search Extension targets the users of Google Chrome mainly, yet it is possible that versions are available for Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox as well. The Chrome version can be added through [hxxps://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/gamerzland-search/gghipbogfjhaapnkfoppeinnhakehnln].
The GamerzLand Search Extension spreads as freeware. It may be bundled with other software offered for free by various websites over the Internet. Since the developers of freeware do not always disclose all the other tools that a particular program will install on a user’s PC, it is possible that GamerzLand is downloaded without any notice to the user. After installation, GamerzLand Search will display a pop-up window that prompts the users to add the GamerzLand Search Extension extension to their browser. The main goal of this tool is to generate advertising revenue for its developers through spying on the user’s browsing and search history, and redirecting the user’s searches.
This PUP will make several significant changes concerning your homepage and search engines settings. The GamerzLand Search Extension will change your browser search provider to “gmrlnd.com” and set the GamerzLand Search as your default homepage. The GamerzLand Search Extension also can modify the “new tab” function of your browser to launch the PUP’s search portal page. The GamerzLand Search Extension also can read and change your bookmarks, as well as all the data on the websites you visit.
