FolderShare

The FolderShare software that you may find in the company of free media players, video codecs, radio apps and trialware is not the FolderShare desktop program from ByteTaxi Inc., which was bought by Microsoft Corp. back in November 2005. We have received complaints about a FolderShare version 8.3 that appeared out of nowhere on the computers of countless users. The first claims were submitted in the third week of January 2018. The name and interface of FolderShare suggest that it can be used to share data among connected computers. The primary executable for the program can be found under C:\Program Files(x86)\foldershare and the local AppData directory. The functionality presented by FolderShare may seem obsolete considering you can navigate to the Advanced sharing settings menu within the Network and Sharing Center that can be accessed from the Network and Internet option shown in the Control Panel. Additionally, there are services like Microsoft's OneDrive, Dropbox, Google's Backup and Sync, Mega and Spider Oak.

The FolderShare 8.3 program does not include a valid digital signature, and it is observed to inject ads into browsers like Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. FolderShare 8.3 is not a legitimate product from Microsoft Corp. and ByteTaxi Inc. You might want to avoid following the links generated by FolderShare considering you might be redirected to potentially corrupted pages. Cybersecurity researchers alerted that the FolderShare 8.3 program may use your browsing history, IP address, and software configuration to load personalized commercials on the Web pages you access. The ads by FolderShare may be hard to distinguish from the native ads on your favorite sites. FolderShare 8.3 is deemed as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that may offer limited network sharing capabilities over insecure connections. Educated PC users may want to remove FolderShare 8.3 and use a trusted anti-malware instrument to clean residual DLLs, Registry keys, Web beacons and tracking cookies.
