DriverMax

The DriverMax utility is a tool, which serves to ensure that all the drivers installed on the user’s computer are updated regularly. Malware experts have listed the DriverMax application as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program).

The DriverMax tool appears to be propagated via freeware bundles. This is not considered a legitimate means of promoting applications, as the main goal is to trick users into installing additional software they never asked for. Often, the installation process may be overcomplicated purposefully to confuse or mislead the user into adding PUPs, like the DriverMax tool, or other suspicious software on their systems. Many PUPs tamper with the settings of the users’ computers, which is a shady approach that genuine applications would never take. PUPs of this kind tend to alter the default new tab page of users by replacing it with an affiliated website to boost its traffic. Some PUPs serve to inject advertisements on the websites that the user visits to generate revenue for their creators. Advertisements affiliated with PUPs are not trustworthy as they tend to promote low-quality products and dodgy services.

It is best to avoid installing freeware bundles as they may contain PUPs or other unwanted software. If you suspect you have installed the DriverMax utility on your computer, it is advisable to use a legitimate anti-malware application to locate and remove it.
