EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecard
EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards are assessment reports for different malware threats which have been collected and analyzed by our research team. EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards evaluate and rank threats using several metrics including real-world and potential risk factors, trends, frequency, prevalence, and persistence. EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards are updated regularly based on our research data and metrics and are useful for a wide range of computer users, from end users seeking solutions to remove malware from their systems to security experts analyzing threats.
EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards display a variety of useful information, including:
Ranking: The ranking of a particular threat in EnigmaSoft’s Threat Database.
Severity Level: The determined severity level of an object, represented numerically, based on our risk modeling process and research, as explained in our Threat Assessment Criteria.
Infected Computers: The number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular threat detected on infected computers as reported by SpyHunter.

PC security researchers have received reports of unwanted advertisements and redirects appearing on Web browsers, often containing the message 'Ads by DownloadItKeep', usually after installing new software. This may mean that the affected Web browser has been housing a Potentially Unwanted Program known as DownloadItKeep. Computer users affected by DownloadItKeep have reported that uncontrollable advertisements appear repeatedly, making it difficult to browse the Web or use the affected Web browser effectively. DownloadItKeep, although not threatening, may hijack the affected Web browser in order to expose computer users to unwanted advertising material repeatedly. In many cases, security software may not detect DownloadItKeep. This is because DownloadItKeep is not a threat. Many security programs are designed to detect high-level threats and may fail to recognize PUPs as unwanted. To protect your computer from PUPs like DownloadItKeep you should be aware that they exist, recognize the typical ways in which they are distributed, and pay special attention in order to avoid them.

The Annoying Actions Performed by DownloadItKeep and Other PUPs
DownloadItKeep is a Web browser extension that may be installed by bundling it with other software. Computer users that pay attention during the installation process may notice that the installer may opt the computer user into installing DownloadItKeep automatically, advertising DownloadItKeep as a beneficial Web browser add-on. A lot of times, the alternative to opt-out is only visible if computer users use 'Advanced' or 'Custom' install options when installing new software. Computer users should avoid installing DownloadItKeep and always opt out of the option when installing new software. If the installer does not let you opt out, malware researchers strongly recommend looking for different options, since a PUP-free version of the program being downloaded is usually available.
PUPs like DownloadItKeep may be bundled with free software. Several programs have a higher likelihood than others of being bundled with PUPs. Likely candidates include PDF creators and readers, download managers and media players and converters. However, any program may be bundled with DownloadItKeep. It is a popular practice to take reliable, popular free software like the VLC media player and then bundle it with PUPs like DownloadItKeep using a third party installer. Because of this, computer users should be very attentive when installing any new software.
Common Symptoms that may be Associated with DownloadItKeep and Similar PUPs
Although DownloadItKeep is not threatening, DownloadItKeep may cause numerous threat-like symptoms on affected Web browsers. This means that affected Web browsers may become very difficult to use, even impossible, especially if multiple PUPs are installed simultaneously (this happens very often since PUPs may be bundled together with multiple other adware and spyware add-ons). Usual symptoms that may be associated with DownloadItKeep and similar PUPs include:
- DownloadItKeep may cause the appearance of numerous, repeated pop-up windows on affected Web browsers. These may appear randomly, interrupting the computer user's online activities. They may have the message 'Ads by DownloadItKeep'. In some cases, computer users may have a hard time opening these pop-up advertisements, causing additional windows or error messages to appear.
- DownloadItKeep may add advertising material to websites viewed on the affected Web browser. For example, DownloadItKeep may add banner advertisements and in-text advertisements to websites that would normally not contain this type of content.
- DownloadItKeep may cause performance issues on affected Web browsers and computers. This is because DownloadItKeep may make changes to your computer's settings that allow DownloadItKeep to run automatically when Windows starts up. DownloadItKeep may consume system resources and make affected computers or Web browsers slower and prone to crashing or freezing frequently.
- DownloadItKeep may make changes to your Web browser settings which may include changing your default search engine and Web browser's homepage automatically.
