The Directions Mapper browser extension from Polarity Technologies Ltd. is an addition to their line of extensions dedicated to navigation and traffic information. The Directions Mapper appears to support the same features Web surfers were presented by the BookmyFlight and the Directions Express extensions. PC users that use Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox may be suggested to install the Directions Mapper via banners, pop-up ads and free software packages. The Directions Mapper extension has an official site hosted on directions-mapper.com. You can install the version of the Directions Mapper for Firefox and IE from directions-mapper.com, but you need to head over to the following page if you are using Chrome:
chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/directions-mapper/caobfmbimahnolmbaoppbibigjhnagan
You should note that the IE and MF versions of the Directions Mapper behave a bit differently than the one for Chrome. When you add the Directions Mapper program to Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox you might notice that the homepage, new tab, and default search provider are changed to search.searchdirma.com/?uc=20170713&ap=appfocus45. In Chrome, the Directions Mapper asks for the following privileges:
- Read and change all your data on the websites you visit.
- Manage your apps, extensions and themes.
The Directions Mapper app takes control of your new tab page and directs the browser to load search.searchdirma.com/?uc=20170713&ap=appfocus45 by default. After installing the Directions Mapper extension on Firefox, the user is redirected to ext.discretesearch.com/aff/redirect?implementation_id=aff45-ty automatically. Users may be urged to add the Discrete Search plug-in (Discretesearch.com) using a pop-up. Chrome users have reported that installing the Directions Mapper extension sometimes may cause a browser redirect to searchencrypt.com, which displays a notification saying 'Install Search Encrypt.' Web surfers can close the tabs, and pop-ups generated by Directions Mapper, as well as cancel the installation of Discrete Search and Search Encrypt.
However, Polarity Technologies Ltd. may use the Directions Mapper extension to offer access to recommended programs in the future. Directions Mapper is an ad-supported product, and as such, you should expect to see notifications from online shops and targeted advertisements on your new tab powered by search.searchdirma.com/?uc=20170713&ap=appfocus45. The Directions Mapper extension allows users to perform online queries via search.searchdirma.com that features an embedded custom Yahoo engine. Web searches on search.searchdirma.com lead users to search.yahoo.com, and they can't change the default search engine on their new tabs. Many users may not like the functionality of the Directions Mapper and seek to remove it. Directions Mapper is deemed as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP), and AV engines may identify the files related to Directions Mapper as:
- Adware.AgentCRTD.Win32.10854
- Adware.StartPage.AUW
- Malware.Heuristic!ET#99% (rdm+)
- PUP-FVT
- Pua.Win.Wrapper
- RiskWare[Downloader]/Win32.Agent
- Trojan.Win32.Downloader.612016
- Unwanted-Program ( 0050a21f1 )
