The DesktopNews gadget for Windows systems that is promoted on Desktopnews.info and freeware packages as a news feed updater is adware. Security analysts note that the DesktopNews adware is developed by the same team behind DropinSavings and may use session cookies and register your Internet history to show personalized advertising content in your browser. The DesktopNews adware-powered gadget may provide users with links to CNBC, CNN, BBC World and The Guardian, but it may redirect users to potentially harmful websites and phishing pages like Spitz.co.uk and Do-not-ignore-this.email.
The DesktopNews adware may use ActionScript3 to show advertisements on the pages you load in your browser and make sure you are not able to close them unless they stay on your screen for five minutes at least. Additionally, the DesktopNews adware may promote badware like MyPC Backup and AppEnable that may corrupt your Windows Restore points and cause system errors. The DesktopNews adware may show banners, pop-up windows and place additional coupons and discounts on your screen when you shop on online stores like Amazon, Best Buy and eBay. The DesktopNews adware may invite users to participate in lotteries and ask for your physical address and credit card number. It is not advisable to provide that sort of information to adware like DesktopNews because you risk being subscribed for premium phone and TV services unknowingly. The DesktopNews adware may decrease your overall computer performance, and you should use a trustworthy anti-spyware tool to remove it safely.
