The CryptoPriceSearch Toolbar from h[tt]p://www.cryptopricesearch[.]com is published by Mindspark Interactive Network, Inc — a company that offers advertisers more direct access to Web surfers. The CryptoPriceSearch Toolbar is an ad-supported program that shows targeted advertisements to Web surfers based on their recent online activity. PC users are invited to install the CryptoPriceSearch Toolbar from cryptopricesearch[.]com to Chromium-based browsers, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. The CryptoPriceSearch Toolbar is said to help users find cryptocurrency and Bitcoin information easier. Computer experts who analyzed the CryptoPriceSearch Toolbar noted that the app requires the following rights in Chrome:

  • Read and change all your data on the websites you visit.
  • Replace the page you see when opening a new tab.
  • Manage your downloads.
  • Manage your apps, extensions and themes.

Similar rights are requested in Firefox and include:

  • Access your data for all websites.
  • Exchange messages with programs other than Firefox.
  • Access browser tabs.
  • Access browser activity during navigation.
  • Monitor extension usage and manage themes.

The CryptoPriceSearch Toolbar is programmed to change the default new tab in the browser to h[tt]p://hp.myway[.]com/cryptopricesearch/ttab02 that is powered by a customized MyWay search service and includes links to Coinatmradar[.]com, Cointelegraph[.]com and Bitcoin[.]org/en/how-it-works. Search operations performed on the CryptoPriceSearch New Tab are redirected to Int.search[.]myway[.]com that is based on the Yahoo search engine. The CryptoPriceSearch Toolbar is made available for free on the premise that Web users would take advantage of the MyWay service and their Web traffic can be monetized by Mindspark.

The CryptoPriceSearch Toolbar is deemed as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that is designed to collect non-personally identifiable data from users and share the data with advertisers. Mindspark is known to use its programs to collect Web usage statistics and make money from analyzing "Big Data" (extremely large data sets that may be analyzed computationally to uncover patterns, associations, and trends related to human behavior and interactions especially). PC users who are not comfortable with using Yahoo technologies, MyWay[.]com and the information gathering techniques employed by Mindspark may wish to remove the CryptoPriceSearch Toolbar with the help of a reliable anti-spyware utility.
